Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.
We look forward to meeting you.

If you have a question Philippine railway related, just drop us a line, maybe we can help.

SPOTLIGHT ON TRAVESIA (BICOL) - 14-2-2010

Travesia Railway Station is located in Barangay Travesia, within the municipality of Guinobatan in Albay, part of the Bicol Region in the Philippines. It sits along the Philippine National Railways (PNR) South Main Line and serves as an important transportation hub for the local area. The station plays a key role in the region’s commuter rail network, particularly along the Naga–Legazpi route.

The station was originally established in 1981 to replace the older Guinobatan station, following a realignment of the railway line intended to avoid the steep grades near Camalig. It officially began operations on February 23, 1986. Over the years, Travesia Station has seen several developments, including major renovations in 2015 funded by a ₱1.7 billion government allocation aimed at rehabilitating the Manila–Bicol railway line.

Structurally, Travesia Station is an at-grade facility with a side platform. It features one main track and a siding track, and it continues to be operated by the Philippine National Railways. In terms of services, it is integrated into the Naga–Legazpi commuter line, offering an affordable and practical means of travel for locals.

The Travesia Bridge that spans the San Francisco River was under repair when we visited.
At the time, the Bicol Commuter Train only got as far south as Ligao, a little further to the north.

The join was looking a wee bit questionable, but was of course fixed before operations were to begin again.

The AH26 highway crossing had been tarred over at the time of our visit. Obviously it has since been restored.
