Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
 Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
 If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.

DMR-01 ITR-01 DMR-02 TESTING - PT 1

 


One of my more interesting trips to the Philippines was back in 2009.

At the time, the six new ROTEM sets were being delivered from South Korea, and initial trials were underway.

I was incredibly lucky to be allowed to witness some being offloaded from ships at the port, and also to take part in some speed trials on the south line in Manila.


The next two blog entries look at the first set (DMR-01 ITR-01 DMR-02) soon after arrival at Tutuban.
They were in the process of replacing the original PNR logo, which lasted only for a very short amount of time after they arrived.





I wish I did get a drive - but we had still to depart when this was taken.

This station diagram has long interested me, many of the names were just not relevant.

Today was the start of a new era for the 'Philippine National Railways' with the surprise unveiling of the first locomotive in the new orange colour scheme.
There has been some talk of a new scheme during both of my two most recent visits, with many theories as to what that would be. However, no theory came close to the striking orange that 917 rolled out in today.
I believe the new locomotive from Indonesia, perhaps the DMU and loco hauled stock a well, will be arriving in this livery It also has me wondering if the paint stripped ROTEM DMU set will be making an appearance in the new livery as well.
