Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.
We look forward to meeting you.

If you have a question Philippine railway related, just drop us a line, maybe we can help.

9003 DETAIL SHOTS - FOR MODELLERS & LOCO FANS.

The distinctive looking 9000 class have been a part of the 'Philippine National Railways' scene for a couple of years now, becoming a regular feature of passenger trains around Manila, and further afield in the province of Quezon.

They have even found themselves to be the topic of scratch building by local railway modellers.

This was the first time I got near one of these interesting locomotives, so the opportunity was taken to take a selection of detail shots for the modellers and loco fans alike.

With the Metro Manila heavy rail operations to close for 5 years, this sort of scene will be lost for some time.

Impressive Much.

While model trains are not new to the Philippines, I have long tried to push the idea of modelling the local railway scene, more so that the more commonly modelled prototype systems from elsewhere around the world.

In more recent times, there has been a move towards modelling the Philippine prototype, and some of the most amazing examples have been built by my friend Adrian Saldana.

Below is his work building a scale model of the new INKA locomotives and rollingstock.
The result is truly mind blowing.

While the Philippine prototype modelling hobby still has a long way to go, we have many ideas that may hopefully see fruition in the future.
If your interested in modelling Philippine transportation, and the areas it runs through, feel free to join us.

Great modelling work mate, you are a Philippine modelling inspiration.

A MILESTONE IS REACHED!

This week we finally reached the 1000 member mark on our main 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' forum. It is a number we could have only dreamed of on Yahoogroups, or the Egroups service that preceded it.
With us fast approaching our second decade of existence, this gives hope that the future of the PRHS will be one of growth.
Yes, it has not been without its hard times, a few very hateful people sought to bring us down, on the odd occasion this still tends to happen (Hi Arnel A  and Bobby R), but we move on and usually become stronger. We cannot let these sad lives destroy the great hobby we have built up over nearly two decades.

You are welcome to join our group on Facebook.

~~ PROJECT 5010 ~~

Work on our prototype has been revolving around the air compressor box (thanks Reynante) and has reached completion.
This weekends PRHS/SMUT Modellers night will be mostly based on finalising the joining of the new cab front and starting on the window grills (an interesting mix of plastic weld and super glue required).
If time permits, a good look at detail shots of 5000 class for any other items that may be required.

If you are interested in modelling the Philippines, please come and join our Philippine Modelling group on Yahoogroups.

~~ PRHS MODELLERS GROUP ~~
Work continues on a prototype 5000 class in HO scale (see photo below) which I am hoping will lead to a personal collection of around 4-5 units.
The thought of a commercially available one is still being mulled, however we are in the final stages of working on a kit for the CMC/CTC type railcars (later loco hauled)
stock. Once sorted out, the roof will also be attended to.
These kits we hope will be a good basis for anyone wishing to model PNR in HO (or indeed 12mm).

For anyone interested in modelling the railways of the Philippines, or even the other transport modes, scenery, structures etc, we invite you to join us at the

Creek Bridges - Sucat To Alabang

Howdee all, as part of my plans to build a model railway based on Manila, I asked members of the various forums for photos of the creek crossings.

Thanks to Gat Gontok of the Philippine Railways Railfans Group who actually got up pre-dawn to help me (maraming salamat Gat) I ahve got some great ideas for the proposed canal on the layout.

The following is a few examples of the shots he sent.
More will be on our new PRHS Modelling Group website, which is currently available through our similar Aussie groups site.

I hope these are of interest to people - they were for me.

~~ TANKS A LOT ~~

Hi all, some discussions on the Philippine National Railway tank cars have been occuring on the PRHS 'Philippine Modelling Yahoogroup'.

As a result I have been going through some of my more recent shots of the prototype and prowling the internet for possible items in which to base a reasonable model.

Walthers model.

No idea who makes this tanker.

This tanker by Model Power looks like it may have much potential.
The difference that stands out most between them is the dome height, which always seems somewhat taller than the PNR version.
This could always be fixed by chopping a bit out of the dome should you be truly fussed.

For more ideas, a Google search for HO Tank cars gives a lot of different types.
And
If you are interested in modelling anything Philippines, whether it be trains, buses, planes, buildings, ferries or just scenery, we would welcome your ideas on the Philippine Modelling Yahoogroup. Discussion without the bitterness that has invaded our main PhilippineRailways Forum.
