A look at this curious looking 'Buda Railway Inspection Car' that has spent many years based around Lucena (Quezon, Philippines)

Seen at Lucena around 2002 is believed to have been numbered after the US Army 757th Battalion.

2009

By this stage she appeared to have been long disused.

2018

By 2018, 757 was becoming harder to photograph.

2019

By 2019, photography was not much better, and she was in a very advanced state of deterioration with nature gradually taking over her.

2023 

I failed to see 757 during my visit to Lucena in August 2022 and assumed it had been scrapped.

However, we were sent these May 2023 shots of 757 which has had everything above the underframe removed, leaving just the frame, wheels and engine.

It remains to be seen if anything becomes of the remaining frame. But it thought it may become a trailer for use with one of the Kubota vehicles.

BUDA22 THEN - NOW

Anyone who has visited Tutuban station would likely have noticed the small railcar looking thing up the west end of the main concourse.
  I recently found some photos in the late William 'Bill' Sullivan (PRHS VP) collection and thought it would be great to give people a comparison of the vehicle back in 2007, and how she appears today.

In 2007, at Caloocan Workshops, she was little more than a hollow shell and in severe danger of being scrapped. Her sister, #21, was in much worse condition, and can be seen next to her in these photos.
I am not aware of the fate of #21, but suspect it cannot be good.

Another Product of the BUDA Company.
This was  not a Philippine unit.

BUDA22 now sits here in the Tutuban station concourse, along with a small display of historical shots. It is great to see people often go have a look and experience a small part of their important railway history.

~~ RAILFAN DAY IN MANILA ~~

As has become quite a tradition with Philippine trips, our visit last month saw another railfan gathering organised.

This gathering saw us meet at Espana to photograph the DMUs and then travel the old Commex into Tutuban. Here we inspected the few remaining items in Tayuman yard, before catching a train to Blumentritt to inspect Abad Santo and Sollis signalboxes.

Then it was off to Paco to look at the derelict remains of the original station, Pasay Road for the sake of it and then back to Espana where we all farewelled each other.

I have some photos to share, but thought I would show these by my good friends Rodney Orca and Ben Exconde who have been quicker to get them on to Facebook than I have.

Just when you think they have all been removed from Manila
they go and sneak back in!

~~ LUCENA INSPECTION CAR ~~

This little vehicle, the number of which could not be identified, is closed in behind a fence on Lucena station.
It seems to now be used for storage by a person living in the residence next to it.
Slowly rusting away, it would certainly make a great addition to the RIHSPI IC collection.

RIHSPI Gets Its First Items.

In an exciting move, new society RIHSPI has taken delivery of their first two items for restoration, these being BUDA cars 21 and 22.
Both have been moved from Caloocan workshops to another location for restoration, one to operation and the other as a static exhibit.
