Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.
We look forward to meeting you.

If you have a question Philippine railway related, just drop us a line, maybe we can help.

GABRIEL's GARDEN RAILWAY

Over the 21 years I have been promoting the Philippine railway hobby, I have seen many, many changes. Many have been great, others have unfortunately seen
me walk away for a while.
In more recent time, the railway modelling hobby has become a big thing there.
Even I have caught the bug, and slowly build up a collection of Philippine railway items in HO scale, for a possible future layout.
Recently, I saw some photos of Gabriel Gutierrez's layout built out in his garden.
I feel confident in saying that Gabriel has likely pioneered the garden railway in his country. I have seen a number of inside layouts, but I don't recall ever seeing outside one, something that is quite common elsewhere around the world.

It is an early start, but Gabriel is certainly taking on all the challenges that garden railways bring and, I for one, am excited to see it progresses.

It is an exciting time for the hobby.
I personally are working with a few possible heritage projects in the Philippines, while the idea of a railfan based retail outlet moves steadily closer to becoming a reality.

Here's to a great future, for a great hobby.

GABRIEL GUTIERREZ
Postcards

The 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' has long aimed to promote the hobby, and local fans efforts to do the same.
We believe there is far more to the future of the Philippine railway hobby than just posts on Facebook. Together, we will continue to grow the hobby much further than it is today.
PRHS member, Gabriel Gutirrez, is certainly one of the Philippines leading photographers, his amazing photography being regularly, and generously, shared on the PRHS group and publications.
The rail hobby has been growing for 21 years now, and now we are beginning to see the emergence of the railfan hobby industry. The other week it was Fremel's drawings, while I am aware of something bigger beginning in the coming year or two.

Today it is Gabriel's new postcards.
He recently announced the first in a new line of postcards covering Manila railway topics. Each postcard being printed on glossy photo paper.

Minimum of 8pcs for postcard size = 50php each
Minimum of 4pcs for A4 size = 100php each

If experiencing problems, feel free to contact the PRHS via their email address and we will endeavour to help you contact Gabriel.

No photo description available.

Please show Gabriel some support for his efforts and get yourself some of his wonderful photography to keep forever.

Stay tuned, there is a lot more behind the scenes hobby work going on right now.

PHILIPPINE MODELLERS DINNER.

Last night I had the honour of dinner with all my friends in tge local railway modelling group.
This time we met in a restaurant in Makati.
Greatest bunch of people you could dream to meet.
Inspiration is unavoidable when hanging out with these guys.
  Maraming salamat.

I think this has so much potential for more models.

A MILESTONE IS REACHED!

This week we finally reached the 1000 member mark on our main 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' forum. It is a number we could have only dreamed of on Yahoogroups, or the Egroups service that preceded it.
With us fast approaching our second decade of existence, this gives hope that the future of the PRHS will be one of growth.
Yes, it has not been without its hard times, a few very hateful people sought to bring us down, on the odd occasion this still tends to happen (Hi Arnel A  and Bobby R), but we move on and usually become stronger. We cannot let these sad lives destroy the great hobby we have built up over nearly two decades.

You are welcome to join our group on Facebook.

PTERC Train Clean

A few members of my 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' (sister group to my SMUT group), were recently involved in a train clean in Manila.

Organised by my friend Mark Chua, congratulations for helping raise the profile of the railfan hobby in the country.
