Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.
We look forward to meeting you.

If you have a question Philippine railway related, just drop us a line, maybe we can help.

PRHS: WHAT WE DO IN 2023

It is obviously not news to anyone that we have moved in to yet another year.

This year marks our 24th one as a group, oh goodness a quarter of a century existence will soon be upon us, and never have there be such unprecedented amounts of change in the public transport sector of the Philippines.

Brand new PNR lines to the north and south of Luzon, new and extended elevated commuter lines in Manila, the capital's very first subway, the very sad ongoing demise of the traditional jeepney, and examining of transport improvements on the islands of Mindanao, Panay, Cebu, and likely others.

There are many other developments going on, but the internet only has so much room. :-)

Philippine Railway Historical Society

Despite having been around so long, recently it has been quite humbling to have been the go to for a number of transport construction entities, museums and heritage projects around the country, and other areas of the transport industry sector.

We always welcome contact of this sort, and being given the opportunity to share our thoughts on matters rail heritage, and public transport operations in general.

There are a number of exciting projects going on behind the scenes at this time. We look forward to being able to cover this for everyone in the near (hopefully) future.

The first 24 years have been fascinating for me. Met some great friends, whom I love to catch up with as often as possible, and privileged enough to be entertained by many transport people (management/employees) from all different industries .

Sadly though, it hasn't always been positive, over the years there has been long line of haters, racial and ignorance based, mostly hiding behind fake names and secret forums. Some even going so far as to legally defame me to the extent I've had to seek professional advice there in more recent times.

While I do feel sorry for these people due to their obvious mental issues, I am more concerned about the bad way they paint their beautiful country and, even more, the way they set back over two decades of trying to build an accepted hobby for the Philippines.

But move on we must. These people must be called out for what the cowards they are, and we must work towards the continued building of a wonderful hobby, and friendships with likeminded people.

A piece of string walks into a bar and walks up to the counter.

The bartender says, "Sorry mate, we don't serve pieces of string in here”

Upset, the piece of string walks out the door. A sudden thought strikes him. He ties himself in a knot and messes his hair up.

He walks back into the bar and approaches the counter. The bartender says, "aren't you that piece of string from before...?"

"No," says the piece of string, "I'm a frayed knot."
