Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously. Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'. Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways. The distinctive looking 9000 class have been a part of the 'Philippine National Railways' scene for a couple of years now, becoming a regular feature of passenger trains around Manila, and further afield in the province of Quezon.
They have even found themselves to be the topic of scratch building by local railway modellers.
This was the first time I got near one of these interesting locomotives, so the opportunity was taken to take a selection of detail shots for the modellers and loco fans alike.
We are currently working with a couple of heritage entities with an aim to try to compile as much known information on 'Philippine National Railways' locomotives and rollingstock.
Over the years there has been a huge amount of information shared on various PRHS groups, forums and websites. Due to the nature of the internet, it will all likely be eventually lost.
While much of the railfan hobby there now concentrates on destroying each other, and all that we built, we feel that trying to get all this together for future researchers is a far more important use of our time resources.
At this time we are aiming to start with the 900, 2500 and 5000 classes.
We seek any sort of historical information, notes, photos, sightings, especially for the years prior to 1999.
Note that these shots are now quite historic, with the structure having an extensive refurbishment in recent years. We returned for a look at this work during August last year, the results of which will appear on the blog at a later date.

Wrecker Car. I am not entirely sure of this vehicles official designation or history. Recent talks with Mark Chua suggests that it does not appear in an 80s inventory list, nor does it appear in the one I have from the early 90s.

Once somewhat of a mystery, U14C #916 (formerly #908) sits in Lucena Shed. We were later treated to the sight/sound of them starting the ol girl up.
#916 (GE 41850 of 1979) is currently in DESCO for a rebuild.

FREE PRHS RAILWAY PUBLICATIONS
The PRHS regularly publishes magazines (mostly ezines, but sometimes hard copies) covering different railway topics. Locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, publications aimed at modellers and our occasional magazine 'Along Da Riles'. In the future, we are planning a number of other publications of interest to everyone, along with plans for a regularly updated database, and another plan that could prove to be a first for the Philippines.
