Welcome one and all to the 'Philippine Railway Historical Society' blogsite. This site was set up to share photos, historical pieces, comment and virtually anything else pertaining to transportation in the Philippines, with a special emphasis on rail. Occasional we vary from topic, but this is the less serious side of the hobby shining through - cause sometimes, in this miserable and uptight world, we just take ourselves a little too seriously.
Since 1999, the Philippine Railway Historical Society has regularly published items, FOR FREE, of railway interest on our PRHS Website. These include locomotive, rollingstock and transit updates, as well as our occasional magazine, 'Along Da Riles'.
Our interest base has grown over the years with our main Facebook railway group expanding to include groups interested in other Philippine Transport, modelling of Philippine transport and even a group for Philippine railfans interested in overseas railways.
If it sounds interesting, come join in the fun of the oldest, and most diverse, group dedicated to Philippine railways and other transport.
We look forward to meeting you.

If you have a question Philippine railway related, just drop us a line, maybe we can help.

PHILIPPINE RAILWAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Website Upgrade

It has been a long time coming, but with us entering the third decade of our existence, we felt it was time to go through all our sites/groups and give them
all a full refurbishment and update.
Time to make the hobby great again.
In the coming weeks this upgrade will be ongoing. Much has been done, but there is a lot more to come. Contributions always welcome.

The Updated WEBSITE.

900 Class Refurbishment
Project

The second stage of the 900 class has seen two, with a third expected, locomotives hauled down south to Binan. From here they are transferred by road to Desco (GE licencee in the Philippines) for a major refurbishment.
First it was 913 (Jan 24th), followed my PNR flagship 902 (Jan 25th), both of which are now in the Desco plant. It is believed that 914 will follow.

The following photos have been generously supplied by long time PRHS member 'Mark Chua' and should not be used for any purpose without first asking him. He is contactable through the PRHS.
We thank Mark immensely for allowing us to share these great shots of locomotive 902 (our PRHS mascot).

And 913

Caloocan Railway Workshops
The End Is Nigh.

For me, the thought that this may be the last time I will ever this magnificent workshop is quite heartbreaking.
For 20 years I have come here to experience the history that these walls contain. Every single visit you would see something new.
Progress is about to catch up with the Caloocan Workshop, with its being replaced by a train storage facility for the new line up north.
Manila visits will never be quite the same.

I was honoured to not only be able to again visit, but also to briefly partake in the workshop Christmas party.

Salamat.
